What is Spam Guardian?
SpamGuardian is a i4Market proprietary spam
system utilized on all i4Market hosting servers. This system is not
deployed on any colocation accounts.
Why is my email being blocked?
Your email to any i4Market server could be
blocked for a variety of reasons, some of which are listed below.
To check
to see if your mail server IP is listed
OK, I am listed in the
RBL, how do I get off the RBL List?
You will have to check
the RBL's website as every RBL list is different. Some will remove
your server right away, some will make you pay a fine and some will
not remove you until the spam that is coming from your server has
stopped and/or the offending account has been deleted. If your email
specifically states that it was listed in spamguardian.net please
contact us for removal instructions.
Being removed from any RBL does not guarantee that your IP will not
be relisted if found to be sending spam again.
So what exactly
happens to an email sent to i4Market Servers.
Here are the steps in
the order of how they are performed:
|
1 |
Your email
server connects to ours and our server sends a valid
HELO response with a request for it to wait 4 seconds
before sending data. |
|
2 |
Our
server checks with the SpamGuardian Server which looks
up the IP address of the connecting server in the RBL
List, does a reverse DNS check for a valid PTR record
and also checks to see if there is a valid domain
associated with the IP (forward DNS). All these test
must pass before we will start accepting data. If they
fail, the mail will be rejected and the connecting
server will be told of which test has failed. |
|
3 |
Your email
server waits 4 seconds before transferring data. |
|
4 |
If all
test have passed and your server is polite enough to
wait for the requested time period, our server will
accept the message. |
|
5 |
The
accepted message is then passed to our SpamGuardian
Filters which then check over 5000 test and conditions
both inside the email and out including header and text
analysis, Bayesian filtering, DNS blocklists, and
collaborative filtering databases. It will be checked
against content, such as words like Viagra, Sex, etc...
it is checked for list URL's that are known spam
URL's... and many others such as removing any web bug
images etc.
|
|
6 |
After it
goes through these 5000 or so checks it is giving a
total score. This score is assigned using a neural
network trained with error back propagation. The score is
then checked against the users
Spam settings in their control panel. If the SpamScore
is higher than the Spam Settings then the mail is put
into the users Spam folder and the user may never see it, if the
Spam Score is lower than the Spam setting then the mail
will be delivered to the users inbox. |
